Static starts on the screen as multiple voices can be heard...
“Still no video, boss…”
“What about now?”
“You need to click the button!”
“This one…?”
“No, not that…”
Static again, more crackling, this time louder. Still no visual...
“What’s wrong with this thing!?"
“Here, let me help!”
“Don’t touch it, you’ll only make it…”
No audio now, to go with the no video. A “Please Stand By, Technical Difficulties” message is plastered across the screen. Moments pass, before a close-up picture of XYZ shines across the screen...
“There… we good now?”
“No, hit the zoom out button!”
XYZ hits the button as the camera now shows a close-up of his nose...
“Wrong button”
“Oh for fuck’s…”
The feed goes dead again, before coming back a few moments later with a normal view of XYZ standing in his lustrous Hollywood Hills Mansion.
“We good now? Yeah? Finally. Ahem... hello all my ‘Youngbloods’ out there, ‘tis I… the Content Creator… the Social Experiment… the Savant of… of… wait... what am I the Savant of again!?”
“Submission!”
“What!? I bow down to no one!”
“No, not you...”
“You make your opponents submit!”
“Hmm, yes… that makes more sense.”
Static again, as they try to reshoot until he gets it right. Again, the picture returns with a shot of the rolling hills of Hollywood, before focusing on XYZ once more.
“Hello all, I’m sure ya’ll saw me at the Ides and were wondering, ‘what on earth is Xander up to now!?’. Well, first off, if you haven’t checked out the Revolution1 PPV, click on the link below and go to that, then come right back here. Go on… I’ll wait…”
Xander stares intently at the camera for a few seconds, before a “two hours later” message shows up.
“Alright, well I gave ya’ll enough time. So the cat’s officially out of the bag and your boi is headed to Revolution1!”
Edited cheers and clapping are added for sound effect.
“And to kick off the second-season of my reality show, ‘X-Marks The Spot’, I’ll be hosting a new talk show on their Sin brand called ‘X-Factor’!”
A video capture of a woman feinting from surprise is shown.
“Now then, would you all like to know who I got to be on the first ever talk show!?”
An owl hooting “who” over and over again is heard, to almost an annoying degree.
“None other than the new Horrorcore Champion herself, Amelia Hearts!”
A video clip from the movie “The Mask” is shown where the titular character is shown with his animated heart beating out of his chest.
“So be sure to tune in on Tuesday, April 13th to see if your boi and the ‘Goddess of Rock and Roll’ make a little music of our own, if you catch my drift.”
XYZ winks at the camera before the screen cuts to static once more, before finally turning to black...
A few days pass since his grand announcement. Social media is all abuzz; some claiming it’s a hoax, while others think it’s a poor effort of a publicity stunt for his failing reality show.
“They didn’t even promote me!”
“Maybe they didn’t know?”
“And who’s fault is that!?”
“Don’t look at me”
“What do you do here, again?”
“…”
“This is ridiculous, get marketing on the phone!”
“Do we even have a marketing team?”
“You two are worthless.”
Izabella struts in, rolling her eyes at the three boys as they lounge on the couch; the brothers Bryne busy playing the latest fighting combat game that has been yet to be released to the public, part of XYZ’s perks of being a social media mogul. Xander is busy scrolling through his phone, looking at all the comments about the wrestling industry.
“I see you three are working hard.”
“Thank goodness you’re here; you’ll know what to do Izzie.”
“I told you Xander, don’t call me that.”
“…”
“…”
The two glare at each other, locked in a deadly stare-down before she gives up and shakes her head, annoyed. Xander smirks to himself, happy he won, before he is forced to blink his eyes a few time to reset his vision.
“What’s the problem now?”
“They didn’t even promote me!”
“Who?”
“Revolution1! You told me everything was finalized…”
“It is, just got off the phone with Miss Moore herself.”
“So… we’re good then? I can’t let this blow up in my face. I need this for my show. I promised results…”
“Don’t worry, Kylie promised you’ll have a slice of the show set aside for your interview with Amelia.”
“Sweet! I can’t wait! She’s very attractive, don’t you think?”
“I’ve always liked a strong, independent woman in power…”
“Oh for sure, and that match with Dorian…”
“Oh, you meant Amelia…?”
“Yeah, of course… wait… who did you mean?”
“Nevermind…”
“I wouldn’t kick her out of bed…”
“That would actually require you to get her in bed first dumb-ass.”
The brothers continued to bicker and fight amongst themselves as Xander, rejuvenated, hopped off the sofa and went over to his producer.
“And Kylie was okay with my proposal as well…?”
“Took a bit of convincing, and we had to shell out some of our own cash, but she agreed to it.”
“Excellent, I want this show to be memorable. Do you think Amelia will like it?”
“You tell me…”
Izabella pulls up a picture on her phone and shows it to Xander, who claps enthusiastically.
“Looks great, so sparkly.”
“Now the bad news…”
“You know I don’t like bad news…”
“You don’t have a match this week, per-say.”
“Yeah, I saw that. I’m actually okay with it. Gives me more time to get ready…”
“So I signed you up the open battle royale…”
“What!?”
“Why!?”
“How… on Earth did you beat me!?”
Clayton threw his controller down in frustration as Edwin laughed at his younger brother.
“Miss Moore was rather adamant that she see if her ‘investment’ in you was worth it.”
“Psh, she’s not the first to doubt my natural athleticism.”
“Probably won’t be the last either.”
“What’s the big deal? Battle Royale doesn’t sound so bad…”
“Oh no? You want to get in there and mix it up with a never-ending line of dudes?”
“… are we still talking about wrestling?”
Edwin slaps the back of his brother’s head as Izabella takes Xander’s hand in hers.
“Trust me Xander, this is a chance for you to make an immediate impact.”
“We got a lot riding on this deal, Izabella. ‘Dream to be Extreme’ didn’t even make it half-a-season…”
“Yeah, I can’t believe people didn’t want to watch some rich white boy do crazy thrill-seeking shit.”
“And ‘X-Marks the Spot’ barely survived the chopping block the first time around. This second season premier needs to be something special.”
“Have a little faith, Xander; the people will eat up this docuseries about ‘professional’ wrestling. Just remember what Kylie outlined in the contract clause, she doesn’t want any of this to blow back on her.”
“Don’t worry; I know how to conduct myself with people like this. She’ll get her ratings, I’ll get my story; it’s a win-win for both sides. And if I get to show the world that I’m not some rejected action junkie, even better. Now then, I guess I need to go prepare for a roster full of sweaty guys all looking to get 'extreme' with yours truly.”
“That’s the spirit. And who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky and they’ll throw some girls in there for you too.”
“Seriously… we are talking about wrestling, right!?”
Xander left the main room and walked into the bedroom, pulling out his phone and dialing a number.
“Hey CJ, it’s me. The deal is done my-man, you ready to hit this thing with me? Of course you’ll get paid, when have I ever stiffed you like that? Yeah, okay, but that was just the one time… what!? No, that time doesn’t count! Look, I’m good for it, I promise. I could really use you my brother. Yeah, this Tuesday. In Miami. Excellent, can’t wait to see you! What’s that? Oh, I don’t know yet… it’s a Battle Royale. Yeah, that’s what I said, too. That’s why having you in my corner would make me feel better about my chances. No… I’m not scared. Stop laughing. Just be there, okay?”
Xander hung up the phone as he checked his social media feed one last time, seeing that his name was trending once more, a smile on his face. Finally, he was back in the limelight, right where he belonged.
