Within a dimly lit room, the howling winds of Seattle, Washington brush against the old house of the Cross household. As the winds become more aggressive, a low lit candle is seen within the basement. This candle, a shimmering beacon of all that is good within the Cross family.
The basement, which to this point has been a shrine to Haruto Cross, the brother of Sara, is an absolute disaster. In the corner of the room, a small fire is seen where Sara Cross is seen burning some of the photos of her and Haruto. Placed on the walls of the basement, are photographs of both Morbid Dream, and Miles A. Way. The two photos, almost like banners for the competitors, are sitting just above the first that is taking place, with Sara gazing at them both intently.
“First show back, and I have the biggest challenge of my career this week.. I take on not only Miles, a man who I’ve defeated but has since captured himself a World Championship, but also the former World Champion himself, Morbid Dream. Now Miles, last time we faced I gave you more credit than you deserve, because honestly our last match was disappointing at best. Y’see, you didn’t overcome things like you said you would, did ya? No, instead you cowered at the sight of an actual opportunity and you watched, more than likely in fascination as I did as I have done, as I defied.”
As Sara finishes speaking, she lets out a loud exhaust of air as she continues to burn photographs of her with Haruto. As she continues on, tears stream down her eyes. She then puts the photo book down, and continues her attention onto the banners of Miles, and Morbid.
“And as far as I’m concerned, little Miles isn’t going to be making it home to his family this week, because you see, my partner and I are well in sync, while you and Morbid were just tearing into each other? How in the hell will you two team up if you can’t even work together one match? Don’t worry though, Sara Cross is here with the solution to your problems. Study me, watch my every move. Because if you don’t I may just make my way to your little world title next, and when I take you out for that, what’re you going to be known for then? Being nothing but a company prodigee that lost not one, not two, but three matches to the underdog who has done NOTHING but shown you and this world that I am more than capable of beating both you and Morbid by myself.”
Sara, now infuriated, rips the banner of Miles off of the wall. As it begins to catch fire slowly, she focuses her attention to the Morbid banner, but still casually glances at the now burning Miles banner a time or two.
“And Morbid, oh buddy, this match has been a long time coming hasn’t it? Tell me, how sour are you at the fact that you’ve just lost your belt to your tag partner? Bet that one stings, doesn’t it? Don’t worry, because the nice guys never win forever. Eventually they slip up, whether it's because things get personal, or because people like me show them exactly what I am capable of. Now I know, you’re going to play off the macho act. The, I’m not afraid of anything because I’ve always come here to inspire others. But let me ask ya Miles, have ya? Morbid uses people's fears to get his advantage, but what do you do? Hope they underestimate you? Hope that we all don’t see through your facade? Miles, you’re a cliche. Constantly playing the good guy as if good and bad are black and white, well news flash, they aren’t.”
Sara, now smirking, grabs the banner that has barely caught fire, and places it's now warped look back onto the wall. Her smile, almost contagious now, causes her to burst out into laughter.
The laughter quickly turns to tears of regret, but before she can allow for them to fully come to fruition, she wipes them from her cheeks and continues on.
“Now I’m sure he’ll spend his sweet time bringing up my turn, and the fact that I decided for once to take my chance and make my own worth. But ya see, Miles, against all odds I don’t hate you. I hate what you’ve become. I hate the looks you get in the back, as if you’re some god walking on water just because of your winning streak. The streak that I broke. I deserve those looks! I put in week and week out, I have bled in that ring for the fans, I have sacrificed more in four months than you have in your career. But no, you get the moments. You get to defeat Morbid Dream at Christmas Chaos, meanwhile I’m down there defending the title I TOOK FROM YOU!”
Sara, now exhaling louder than ever after screaming, begins searching for things to burn inside the basement. Sara grabs the banner of Miles and tosses it over the dumpster fire with photos of Haruto and Sara burning underneath it.
“But of course, here we are Miles. Back once again, somehow even with you being the World Champion, you’re the underdog, and I… will…. DEFY.”
Sara, smirks as the banner of Miles continues to burn, his face now no longer visible because of the smoke. As she turns, she is caught off guard by the presence of her father, Yuki, who is sobbing and reaching out for Sara for a hug. As she tries to walk away from him, he pulls her back towards him, forcing her to stare into his eyes, which are sky blue like Haruto’s.
The two exchange a short glance, in this time Yuki continues to tear up watching his daughter suffer the way she is, but Sara slyly smirks and points to the destroyed shrine of Haruto. Yuki, turning, lets out a loud gasp and drops to his knees as Sara leaves the scene. Yuki, now crying heavily, looks at the banner of Miles, tears filling his eyes quickly.
“This… Is war..”
