Character Name: Samuel “Sam” / “Sammy” Laramie
Nickname: “Big Daddy”
Hometown: Morgantown, WV
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 325 lbs.
Alignment: Baby Face
In-Ring Style: Old School Powerhouse
Bio: Sam Laramie was born in the small town of Gallipolis, OH before losing his dad to the Silver Bridge Collapse, when the whole family of eight moved back with family in Wheeling, WV. There he was a varsity letterman in both wrestling and football. Success on the mat garnered a Marshall scholarship; petty crime, however, sent him to prison for several years. There Sammy became a cook until the day he perfected a fried chicken recipe that made him a regional success story. He remains an advocate for prison reform and other matters of state.
Despite almost seven years behind bars, Sam was able to capitalize on his unique personality to sell the stuffing out of his fried chicken. Laramie Foods LLC. has cine made him a wealthy man, but he remains humble and family-oriented regardless. The same goes for his family albeit two divorces. Although his son Sampson Jr. is not into wrestling at all, his daughter Calypso wants to follow in her pop’s sugar footsteps – a business he’s still worried to welcome her into due to his experiences.
Sam paid the rights to use the popular tune “Take Me Home, Country Roads” as a gesture of good faith for his contract into Trinity Wrestling. His signing remains controversial for a myriad of reason people are far too eager to share via Twitter or forum. However, a few bits of bad press won’t dampen the larger than life personality of West Virginia’s second favorite chicken icon. Nor will his aching, doughy body (one closer to sixty than fifty) admit defeat.
Aside from being out of shape, Sammy also had a mildly successful career in the mid 80‘s being a territory nomad. He opened chicken restaurants one day, and then played gatekeeper for feds looking to break in aspiring talent. His original retirement around 2006 gave him time to oversee business while also coaching his daughter on the fundamentals of sport that treated him so well.
Attire: Backstage: Leisure suits, cowboy hats and boots – just about anything worn by country singers.
In Ring: Golden brief trunks with a red borders and “Big Daddy” in red across the back; White boots elbow, and kneepads. (Entrance gear): A white ten-gallon hat; a beige suede leather jacket with long fringes and his profile airbrushed on the back with his trademark saying “Be You or Nobody!” in red.
Theme song: “Country Roads, Take Me Home” – John Denver
Pic Base: Mid Atlantic Era / “Hard Times” Dusty Rhodes
Entrance:
Lights flicker patriotic colors of red, white and blue when that familiar twang of “Country Roads…” by John Denver gets the fans roaring to their feet. All their hooting brings out the super personality that is Sam Laramie in hip shaking to the tune in his cowboy hat and frilly leather jacket. He then points towards ring already looking oily and sweaty.
Alara Miles: On his way to the ring from Morgantown, West Virginia… wearing 325 pounds… “Big Daddy” Sam Laramie!
Sammy struts his way down the ramp while dinking with anyone raising the horns for him. He then gives the arena some eye candy with another hip shake before jogging up the steps and slipping into the ring. Big Daddy goes straight to the farthest turnbuckle, climbing it so that he can wave his cowboy hat like any ole cowpuncher. Fan go gaga for it all while he disrobes down to his wrestling gear, waiting with his back in the turnbuckle for the match to begin.
Favorite moves:
Old School: school boy, hard scoop slams, full nelson, belly to back suplex, hammer lock take downs, side slam, snap mare, clothesline (mostly to throw people outside), chop block, superplex
New School: pendulum backbreaker, airplane spin into fireman’s carry, shining wizard, rolling Boston crab, second rope tornado DDT, spinning wheel kick, running senton, vaulting body splash and plaunchas
Signature Combinations: 1) “Hot Wing” – reverse atomic drop + body slam + standing leg drop
2) “#3” – three Snap jabs + shaking his booty + pinning cross body
Signature moves: 1) “Blue Ridge Sunrise” – flapjack that gets a lot of air
2) “Coal Car” – Pump handle suplex w/ hip shaking
Finisher(s): 1) “Daddy Bomb” – Dr. Death’s “Doctor Bomb”
