A black car pulls up to the curb and Jason Ryan steps out. He grabs a few bags, tips the driver, and looks towards the camera.
Hello Revolution1 fans. Jason Ryan here and this is episode 1 of Reigniting the Flame, a short mini documentary series I've been asked to do for the network. Over the next several weeks all of you will be following my journey as I try and awaken my career. You'll get to see a never before seen look behind the scenes at my training regime, how I prepare for matches plus other things. Over the next few months, I'll be living in this apartment complex here in Billings Montana. I am forgoing luxury of any kind as a way to keep me motivated. Fun fact, I grew up around here. A few blocks down the road is my childhood home. In fact, I had a childhood friend who lived here. In fact, fight there, can we get the camera over there?
The camera shows a patch of sidewalk and then back to Jason
Right there is where I watched an old woman get stabbed for her purse.
Wait what?!
Yo, camerman what's your problem?
Is this neighborhood violent?!
... Look there are worse places in this city alright? We could be at the Southside right now.
Well, are we going to be safe here?
Look, just follow the general rule of thumb and don't draw attention to yourself. You'll be fine.
We're going to be running around filming you! How is that not going to draw attention?!
Shut up and film my ass while I walk away from you. Now come on. Let's check out my home away from home.
Jason grabs his bags and heads to a door on the second floor. He sticks the key inside the locks, twists it, and fights to get it open. Once they're inside the cameraman groans.
Dude! I've seen better looking crackdens!
Didn't you go to Princeton? When have you ever seen a crackden?
... Shut up. Have you ever seen one?
I've got a distant relative serving time for running one. Anyway, let's get situated, I've got to get to the school in a couple hours. Go ahead and film the rest of the place while I get set up.
The Cameraman does as instructed, filming the kitchen, the bathroom, the master bedroom, and the living room. He shrieks at the top of his lungs when a rat runs across his foot in the spare bedroom. Jason hurries in, looking around wildly.
What what what?!
Bro! That rat is bigger than my freaking cat!
Don't be a baby.
Do you see that thing?!
Stop being a bitch and help me get my Xbox set up.
You need help setting up an Xbox?!
... Shut up.
8: 00 PM. El Silencio's Pro Wrestling gym.
Well. This is it. This is where I got my start.
So you were trained by El Silencio himself? I watched him all the time as a kid. His deathmatches in Japan were insane and to this day I haven't seen a Lucha star like him. Think he'd give me an autograph if I asked him?
Go ahead and try. You'll be running suicides along with me.
Jason leads the way through the gym, casually returning greetings from other people working out in the gym. Pictures of wrestlers hang everywhere as well as pictures of family life and pictures of Jason's teacher wearing a Marine dress uniform. Jason stops in front of an older man.
Travis. It's been a long time.
(Off-Screen) Hello, my name is Travis Horton, better known as El Silencio. I was recently inducted into Japan's professional wrestling hall of fame last year. I have been training wrestlers ever since I retired. I have known Josh Norman, the man you all know as Jason Ryan, ever since he was a little kid to the point he may as well be my own son. We have not seen each other ever since he was signed by Sin City wrestling five years ago so it was quite a shock to hear from him. I am well aware of his past accolades I follow the careers of all my students very closely. I'll admit, they're almost impressive but if Josh thinks I care he's sold-out Madison Square Garden or the Tokyo Dome, he's got another thing coming. Compared to me, he's still a little boy in a man's world. Josh has gotten soft, and I'm going to have a lot of fun whipping him into shape.
Jason and Travis shake hands as well as Travis and the cameraman.
Now Josh, You're five minutes late. You know what that means. You owe me five hundred suicides and five hundred pushups on your knuckles before I even bother re-training you. Oh, and Josh. From now on, I expect you here at three in the morning sharp whenever you're not booked for a show. Plus, on top of that, I expect you to report to my ranch to help out with the fieldwork on weekends no later than four in the morning. Now you better hurry up, I've got a full schedule for you.
The next hour consists of Jason going pushups, suicides, sit-ups, jump rope for forty-five minutes straight, and if he makes a single mistake has to start all over again, wind sprints around the outside of the building, plus time at the various weight lifting machines. The more Jason begins to tire, the more Travis pushes him and the less forgiving he is of mistakes. This continues for three hours, even after the school has closed for the day. Finally, after his last suicide, Jason stumbles to a trashcan and vomits, drenched in sweat.
Dude Jason, you alright?
Frank... it's Frank right? Frank... What the fuck am I doing? Why am I putting myself through this? I should just go work at Burger King.
Hey man watch the swearing, the network doesn't like that.
I'm putting myself through this, I'll swear all I god damn want to.
Josh. I hope you enjoyed yourself today. Because I've got a training match set up for you next Monday. You remember my daughter right? She's taking time out her busy schedule to come down to work with you.
Jason's eyes widen in panic and he actually starts to tremble in fear.
You okay?
No. No I'm not. His daughter beat me up my entire childhood and recorded herself beating me up most times. She's both one of my closest friends and my most feared childhood bully.
That's rough. Anything I can do to help?
... Kill me.
