Xander Young Zaber (The Talent)
Cillian Shaw (Doctor of Robotics)
Logan Zaber (The Father)
Xander Young Zaber stood on the balcony of his parent’s luxurious penthouse in the Hollywood Hills as the Christmas Party raged on without him. Despite this celebration featuring various rich and famous people from all works of life, Xander found himself disinterested in the festivities. He and his parents didn’t quite see eye-to-eye on his most recent venture; his “stunt” into the wrestling business creating quite the backlash from a few of their more reserved investors.
"The prodigal son returns!”
Xander knew the voice of Dr. Shaw anywhere as he didn’t even turn around to acknowledge him. Cillian was a “friend of the family”, which was a fancy way of saying that he was eternally indebted to his parents – ever since his failed cybernetic combat experiment blew up in his face, literally.
“Surprised my parents even let you out of the lab.”
“I mean, it is Christmas Eve. We can’t work all the time.”
Cillian sauntered up next to Xander, tapping his Champaign flute into his.
“Beautiful view…”
“It always looks better from up high.”
“That it does.”
Cillian laughs as Xander simply rolls his eyes.
“So I hear you have a big event coming up…”
“So we’re doing this then, huh?”
“Doing what?”
“The whole ‘niceties’ thing. You don’t have to pretend to be interested in my endeavors, Cillian. We both know you’re just here on my parents behalf to ‘talk some sense into me’.”
“Whoa now, your parents had nothing to do with this.”
Xander raised his eyebrow as he stared over at the Doctor.
“Okay, well… look… they’re just worried about…”
“Themselves, like always. They’re worried about how my actions reflect on them and their company. Z-Tech is fine; sure it took a dip this past year but that was more-so from the pandemic than anything else. Besides, they landed you in their robotics department; and you came highly sought after so they must be doing something right. That, or you’re doing something wrong.”
Cillian laughed again as Xander took another drink of his alcohol.
“I get it; I know what it’s like to want something so bad only for it to, ultimately, not work out the way that you had hoped. You’ve had a lot of start-ups Xander…”
“This is different than all those. I mean, it started as just another side gig. A way to get publicity, increase my followers, get new and fresh eyes on the product; but I’m damn good at what I do. Hell, if it wasn’t for that Aussie bitch, I’d be Legendary Champion right now.”
“I’m not sure I know what that means.”
“It means that, in my rookie year, I almost took the top prize in the industry – and that’s me coming off the street with almost little to no training what-so-ever. These other people have been training and wrestling for years and they don’t have half the talent or potential that I do. I am a born natural – a fucking prodigy! Given a little more time…”
"More time…?”
Xander turned around and faced his father as Cillian quickly took his leave.
“Don’t you think you’ve wasted enough time?”
“I’m making my own path, Dad.”
“And a fine job that you’re doing of that – do I need to remind you of the call that your mother and I got when you were laid up in the hospital, your face a mangled mess?”
“I was there Dad; you don’t need to remind me. And believe me; Jin will get what’s coming to him.”
"Enough!”
Logan moved over to his son, placing his hand on Xander’s shoulder.
“We’ve done this song-and-dance long enough, I’ve given you more than enough time to go out and spread your wings. I’m done watching you fall on your face. It’s time you join your mother and I…”
“No!”
Xander shoved his Dad’s hand away.
“Just because this is the life that you and Mom chose for me doesn’t make it the life that I want. You need to accept that, Dad. I’m not the heir to the Z-Tech Empire. That’s not me.”
Logan sighed heavily as he twisted his mustache.
“Alright, how about a wager then?”
Xander scrunched his face as he looked at his Father, confused.
“You have some big Pay-Per-View match coming up, yes? This so-called ‘Battle for Brand Supremacy’ bout. How about you put your money, and your privilege, where your mouth is.”
“What are you talking about?”
“If you and your team win, then you can remain in Revolution1 and your Mother and I will temper our expectations of you joining the family dynasty – at least for the time being.”
“And if I lose…?”
“Then you give up this charade and you come home. You belong here with us, son.”
“How can you think this a fair deal? I’m against four people! Not to mention I have to rely on three others to pull their own weight!”
“Life isn’t always fair, son. What’s it going to be?”
Xander pondered his options before extending his hand, shaking his Father’s.
“Fine, you have a deal. But you have to tune in and watch Christmas Chaos.”
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
Logan left his son alone on the terrace as Xander grabbed his phone, hitting the “Xclusive” app and broadcasting himself onto the Revolution1 Network.
“What up world, it’s your boy ‘XYZ’ with a special Christmas Eve ‘Xclusive’! I know we’re all enjoying the holiday season but this week is about more than unwrapping presents, kissing under the mistletoe, or even the birth of Christ himself – this week is about ‘Christmas Chaos’! This will be my first Pay Per View match since the Lee-Jin of Misfits cost me the Legendary Championship! That being said, I’m actually cheering for Maggie Lockheart in the main event – if only because it’d be nice to see some justice be served to those deceitful and cheating hooligans. But I’ve wasted enough breath on them; let’s get into the Steal of the Show, shall we? This ‘Battle of Brand Supremacy’ is a bit of an oxymoron for we all know that any show with your boy on it is the ‘better one’. Now I don’t really know much about my teammates, other than Xavier Coldwater earned himself a number one contendership for Jessie Lee’s Rising Star Championship. Yet again, the Aussie hussie avoids her day of reckoning by fighting anyone and everyone besides me. That’s okay though, I’m a patient man. Jessie just better keep her head on a swivel because – just like a few weeks ago, when I left her a bloodied pile in the center of that ring – she never knows when I might strike. As for the Griffin twins, are they even related? I would assume not since, you know, the pigment of their skin. Regardless, I find myself in the rare position of – despite my own brief wrestling experience – being the veteran or ‘team captain’ of Legacy. As such, the only orders I have for those that represent this brand is this… don’t get in my way!”
Xander laughed, winked at the camera, before getting serious once more.
“As for those that represent Sin, I won’t lie… this match is a bit more personal than I’m willing to divulge at this very moment. Let’s just say that, once more, the odds are stacked against me. But just like at Remembrance, when – on short notice – I had to fill in for my dear friend, Sierra Silver, I gave Jin Min-jun the fight of his life. So go back and watch the tape boys and girls, because you’re getting a Main Eventer in the Opener. Sara Cross, you sound familiar, almost as if you were here once before. In fact, if memory serves me correctly, didn’t you get your ass embarrassed and tossed out of the ring in a matter of seconds during the Remembrance Battle Royal? And you’re supposed to… what… be Sin’s secret weapon? Well, at the very least, I expect you to put up more of a fight than Jalen Prince… I don’t think I’ve seen that dude win a single match since he got here. In fact, yes… he was also eliminated within a matter of seconds back at the Remembrance Battle Royal. Hard to believe that this is the best that Sin has to offer in terms of competition. Well then, onto Chelsea Skye. Wait, that’s not right, Talia Skye… is it? What is with all these generic people and their interchangeable last names? Regardless, I feel like we’re getting the ‘lesser’ Skye in this case, but at least she holds a victory over the ‘better’ Brandon so… that’s something? Last but not least, is Vespertine… I can’t decide if this is someone’s name, a type of herbal tea, or an anti-itch cream. Regardless, she managed to secure a victory over one of the #1 Contenders for the International Championship so either she’s a bright new up-and-comer or the talent pool on Sin has gotten so bad that even Champions and #1 Contenders alike aren’t what they used to be. The fact of the matter is that none of you in this match, whether you are foe or friend-alike, compare to the ‘Savant of Submission’ – I have more victories in my time here than all of you combined. Christmas Chaos is my chance to remind everyone just why I should be Legendary Champion! All of you are nothing more than bodies that I will leave in my wake on my way back to the top! So enjoy your holidays because come December 28th, you all are in for a Rude Awakening… courtesy of your boy, ‘XYZ’…”
