Dallas, Texas
Serena’s travels with the Revo1 industry had taken her away from her friends and family and forced her to miss out on last week’s holiday. As a result, her family was courteous enough to throw a make-up Thanksgiving dinner as she and her parents and her two brothers watched the Dallas Cowboys further their lead on the division with a victory over the New Orleans Saints. Though she felt a sense of pride in her team, her recent downfalls in the wrestling industry continued to overshadow most happy thoughts these days.
“How are you holding up, darling?” Autry, Serena’s mom, asked.
“I’m fine, Mom,” Serena responded.
The two were busy cleaning up after the party as her father and two brothers had gone into town to drink and celebrate another victory.
“Charlotte called last week,” Autry announced. “She said one of the girls twisted her ankle; they might have an opening.”
“What you trying to say?” Serena responded.
“I just don’t want to see you get hurt,” Autry reasoned. “Wrestling is dangerous, sweetie.”
“I thought you and Daddy were proud of me,” Serena replied. “I know that it’s dangerous, that this is unlike anything I’ve ever done before. But I could really use some support, especially now.”
“Honey, this isn’t going to help you pay the bills,” Autry retorted. “I don’t know much about this industry but I do know that you need to actually win matches in order to actually make real money. And if you end up getting hurt, they just cast you aside. You’re expendable. You need to find something that’s less conditional and more consistent.”
“I’m just starting out,” Serena argued. “None of this truly surprises me. I was warned as much when I did my training with Sy. Just because I was great at dance and cheer doesn’t mean that my previous success will, immediately, correlate to instant results inside the wrestling ring. I’m doing everything that I was taught though. I’m using my agility and quickness to my advantage. Each match I’m getting better, learning what I need to do differently. I just have to have patience…”
Her Mom slammed a plate down into the sink, breaking it into pieces.
“Your father and I have tried to be supportive,” Autry threatened. “But what are we supposed to do? Just sit back and watch you get yourself killed?”
“That’s a bit overdramatic, isn’t it?” Serena scoffed. “When was the last time someone actually died inside of a wrestling ring?”
“What about that mess in California a year ago?” Autry questioned.
“That wasn’t so much wrestling as it was a terrorist attack,” Serena corrected. “Besides, Sy and Cass were both there; they know how terrible it was. Though unlikely for something like that to happen again, Sy did train me for that possibility and I’m sure Cass has contingency plans in place.”
“How do you even train for something like that?” Autry wailed. “You going to dodge bullets now?”
“I’m not that quick,” Serena rationalized.
Serena wrapped her arms around her Mother, trying to reassure her.
“I’ll be okay,” Serena promised. “Just trust me, please. I know what I’m doing.”

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Serena sat in the backstage area as she looked over video footage of her previous matches, trying to mentally prepare herself for her next challenge and ensure that - this time – the results ended in her favor. As she sifted through the various tape, an alarm sounded on her tablet, alerting her that it was time for her to promote her upcoming match with Danielle Griffin.
“Hi everyone!” Serena announced. “I’m coming to you live from the very far north, where it is definitely colder than I’m used to. This is one of the few times I’ve actually been outside of the United States so this whole ‘Northern Invasion’ of Canada has been a lot of fun so far! I’m booked to compete in the Legacy opener against Danielle Griffin this week and I’m very eager to get back into that ring following my injury. Now you could say my official return was last week, at Cyber Slam, but Sara Pettis took me out in a matter of seconds. Needless to say, I learned the hard way exactly why she’s the number one contender for the World Title and, also, that I have a long way to go if I want to – one day – compete with someone like her. As for Danielle, it wasn’t so long ago that I was the new face in the industry. I honestly don’t know much about you, other than you’re from Texas too! So I guess, in a way, we’re both out of our element here – what with all this cold wind and snow everywhere. I know this place can be very harsh to those debuting but I promise Danielle that, win or lose, you’ll get a fair fight out of me. That being said, don’t expect me to be showing you any of that ‘Southern Hospitality’. I’m still searching for my first victory here in Revo1 and though I’ve come close many times, I’ve still yet to pull off that ever elusive ‘W’. If my rise to the top has to start with me dropping you in your debut, then that’s just the way that this cookie has to crumble. So batten down the hatches and brace for impact because Winnipeg, this Storm is on the rise!”
