“What kind of name is ‘Krytos’ anyway?” Arthur complained, sitting down beside his sister on the bench.
“Pretty sure that’s not his REAL name,” Guinevere responded, shrugging her shoulders. “It’s like his… stage name, I think.”
The two siblings were taking a break from training as they watched the other wrestling development upstarts get their reps in. Though they were no strangers to intense workouts, the Huffs weren’t quite accustomed to the extreme physicality involved in professional wrestling. Guinevere continued to massage her sore ankle as Arthur shot her a worried look.
“Your ankle feeling any better?” Arthur asked.
“I’ll be fine,” Guinevere reassured her brother, lightly bumping off of him. “I always heal fast, you know that.”
“I still can’t believe we lost our debut match,” Arthur complained, grinding his teeth together. “I had Eli Griffin right where I wanted him, if only Krytos hadn’t gotten involved when he did…”
“Yeah, we’ll need to study up more on the rules of tag team wrestling,” Guinevere chimed in. “Seemed like they kept getting involved when they weren’t supposed to.”
“It’s in the past,” Arthur declared, slamming his fist into his palm. “This week is a new week and this time, its mano-a-mano. I get Krytos inside that steel cage and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let him steal another one from us.”
“Just remember, it’s an ‘Escape the Cage’ match,” Guinevere reminded him. “So… I think… all you have to do is be the first one out of the cage to win the match.”
“Don’t worry,” Arthur tried to reassure his sister. “I’ll not only win this match, but I’ll make sure that I send a statement to the Griffins that they messed with the wrong siblings.”
At that moment, a body came flying out of the ring, landing near where the Huffs were seated. Arthur took exception to the fact that the rookie wrestler had almost crashed into them as he rose up from his seat, pulled the inexperienced youth up by the tights and threw him right into the ring post. The boy’s head smacked off of it with a loud “thud” as all the other trainees stopped what they were doing. A few medical personnel went to tend to the youth as Arthur simply wiped his hands clean of the filth.
“Was that really necessary?” Guinevere half-scolded her sibling, doing her best to hide her amused smile.
“Of course not,” Arthur casually responded, shrugging his shoulders. “But it was FUN. Besides, these salopard’s need to learn their place. That imbecile almost landed on us, which could’ve – in turn – done further damage to your ankle. Or worse yet, injured me in the process. Which would’ve given Krytos an unfair advantage heading into our match tomorrow night.”
“I suppose we were treated with the same type of ‘hospitality’ during our first few training sessions,” Guinevere reasoned, recalling how brutal some of those early weeks were.
“Exactly!” Arthur chimed in. “Just paying it forward, or whatever. Just you wait, he’ll thank me one day for that.”
“Assuming he remembers any of it,” Guinevere laughed.
Arthur shrugged his shoulders as the sparring partner motioned for him to move into the ring. The elder Huff held up his finger as to indicate that he would be ready in a minute.
“I hope you know I wasn’t trying to steal your spotlight this week,” Arthur turned to Guinevere, sorrow on his face. “Me challenging Krytos a few weeks ago, I think that was just one of those ‘heat of the moment’ type things…”
“Relax brother,” Guinevere assured him, placing a hand on his shoulder. “There’ll be plenty of time for us to establish ourselves as the best tag team in this place. Especially since it looks like the Diamond’s went out and secured those tag team belts for Legacy! I think it’s just us and the Griffins that would be competing for it for the time being, so I’m sure once they get a few more teams in, we can make a run at the gold.”
“Well we do look rather good in gold,” Arthur smirked, rising to his feet.
Arthur began to stretch and prepare himself for combat as Guinevere forced herself up and hobbled over to his side.
“I have faith in you that you can finish what we started,” Guinevere commended her brother.
“Oh I’ll do more than that,” Arthur winked, hopping up and down so as to get his blood flowing. “When I’m done with Krytos, he and his brother will have finally learned their lesson and they’ll want nothing more to do with us. I’ll put them in their place and knock them back down to the bottom of the division, where they truly belong. You and I are destined for so much more than just simply scraping at the scum that is the Griffins. They are like the gum on the sidewalk; tasteless, flavorless, dried up, clinging to the bottom of one’s shoe in hopes that it’ll carry them to their next destination. I don’t know HOW we lost to them in our debut; we’ll call it a fluke. But this time, I’m more-than-ready for Krytos. The only way he’s escaping from that cage tomorrow night is on the back of a stretcher.”
Arthur moved up onto the ring apron and proceeded through the ropes as he began to prepare for the biggest moment yet in his early career.
