“Again!” the instructor shouted.
“No, no, no!” the instructor screamed. “Again!”
“Great job, sis!” Arthur announced, handing her a bottle of water.
“Thanks!” Guinevere responded, twisting the cap off.
“Nice shot, bro!” Guinevere cheered him on.
“Are you sure about this, dear?” Gwendoline, their mother, asked.
“We’ll be fine,” Guinevere assured her parents.
“This seems very risky,” Clint, their father, scolded.
“We’ve been training for weeks; the Diamonds set us up with the best trainers…” Arthur tried to interject.
“I still don’t know why they asked you two to drop everything like this,” Gwendoline pondered.
“And without consulting us first, too,” Clint sneered.
“You two are always telling us to challenge ourselves,” Guinevere commented.
“Yes, but in the arts my dear, like your father and I,” Gwendoline answered.
Their Father and Mother were esteemed actors in their own right, mainly partaking in theatre plays and musicals. Arthur and Guinevere had tried to follow in their footsteps but ended up finding a passion for dance, instead.
“Will you two be there for our debut?” Arthur dared to ask.
Their parents exchanged looks with each other, telling the siblings all they needed to know. They didn’t approve of this career change. And, as such, would not be supporting them in their endeavors.
The two arrived to the arena a few days early so that they could familiarize themselves with the semantics of the business, as well as get in a few “last-minute” training sessions. They stood in the ring and looked out at the empty seats. Performing in front of a crowd had never been an issue for them before.
“What do we know about the Griffins?” Arthur asked.
“They’re family, like us,” Guinevere answered.
“They may have the experience on us, but we’re not as ‘green’ as we might look,” Arthur reassured her.
“Our trainer did say that we were ‘natural talents’,” Guinevere responded.
“Exactly, together we’re unbeatable,” Arthur said.
“Do you think Mom and Dad were right?” Guinevere asked.
“Of course not! Besides, when was the last time either of them took a risk?” Arthur answered.
“Yeah, you’re right,” Guinevere said.
“Come on, let’s get in a few more sparring sessions before our big debut,” Arthur instructed her.
The two warmed up in the ring, getting ready to make their debut in Washington, D.C. against the Griffins. Though they were new to the business, they always had a competitive spirit that propelled them to great heights. Time would tell if this would be their big break and if we were looking at future champions.
Guinevere Huff leapt into the air, with the grace of a gazelle, stretching her legs out, before landing perfectly in position. She wished she could say the same for the rest of her ensemble.
“No, no, no!” the instructor screamed. “Again!”
Arthur Huff watched his sister from the sidelines. He wasn’t part of the main cast, only used as a backup dancer or an understudy. Despite being the older sibling, he didn’t have the same proficiency as her. She had always been the favorite, even in their parent’s eyes. But Arthur never held a grudge nor envied her; in fact, he was – in most senses – her biggest fan.
Guinevere bounced off the ropes, leaping up onto the middle one and somersaulting her way back into the ring. Arthur stood on the apron, clapping his approval.
“Great job, sis!” Arthur announced, handing her a bottle of water.
“Thanks!” Guinevere responded, twisting the cap off.
The trainer motioned for Arthur to go in and work with his spar partner. Even in this, things just seemed to come naturally to Guinevere. Arthur hit the mat and bounced back up, partly out of frustration. He ran against the ropes, leaping into the air and kicking his “partner” in the face.
“Nice shot, bro!” Guinevere cheered him on.
The pair had been in the middle of preparing for another rendition of “Giselle” when they had gotten the call from Cassandra Starr. Wrestling was quite the leap from ballet but both siblings were excited to get back stateside after spending so many years touring Europe.
“Are you sure about this, dear?” Gwendoline, their mother, asked.
