TD Garden Bank // October Five As the bell rang, Sara Pettis rolled off of Overbaker. She smiled as she celebrated with the fans a bit. Alara Miles announced her as the winner of the match… and then she was attacked from behind by a masked figure. Following a devastating V Trigger, the mask was removed to reveal Jalen Prince, a dependable enhancement talent assigned to the Sin brand. He smirked as he walked back up the ramp, and the show went to a commercial break. With the cameras off, the medical team rushed out to aid the fallen star. The fans watched on the edge of their seats, sharing a collective worry for the beloved performer. They got her out of the ring and to her feet, having passed their checks with flying colors. Outside of the ring, she stepped away from the staff, and then slapped hands with some fans at ringside. The building erupted with emotion for the Child of Fate as she made her way up the ramp. She blew a kiss to the crowd before walking backstage, where she was immediately embraced by her… Jason: Hell of a win, champ! Sara: Oh please. I’m not the champ… yet… He steps back and looks her very carefully in the eyes. Sara: What are you-- Jason: Just checking. Sara: I’m fine. Really. Jason: That V Trigger looked rough. Sara: Oh, it was. Poorly executed… but it rocked my world. Precision will come in time. Looks like I have myself a pet project. Jason: I think his intent was to start beef, not take lessons. Sara: Why not both? She smiled and they shared a laugh, heading down the hall toward the locker room. XL Center // October Twelve Sara and Jason found themselves in a private suite at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. While not a member of the Legacy brand, Sara was asked to appear at a local autograph signing. Following a thrilling match featuring her nephew Ross, Sara was elated to find out along with the rest of the world that Ross was being traded to the Sin brand. She applauded until realizing she was alone in the elation. Jason: I take it… you’re happy? He chuckled. Sara: Uh duh! You don’t know Ross very well but he’s such a good kid. Jason: Kid? You’re barely older than him. Sara: Force of habit. Having been in this business since birth… everyone seems like a kid to me. Jason: Tell me about it. The show I did in Poughkeepsie on Friday was the same. I was probably the only guy over two hundred pounds, too. Sara: Not a lot of heavyweights on the indies. They all get scooped up and get contracts with-- She stopped abruptly. Jason: It’s okay, Sare. I’m not complaining. If I wanted the spotlight, I’d go out and take it. For now, I like giving back to the next generation. My seminar bookings are picking up, so I can save the big bumps for when it counts. I like what I’m doing. A nosy man in a suit tried to get Jason’s attention. He held up his hand to wave the man away. Sara: What was that about? Jason: You haven’t noticed that guy every Tuesday when I’m around? That binder he’s carrying is a contract offer from-- Sara: OHMYGODREALLY!??!!! Jason: Yes, really… but like I said… I like what I’m doing. When the time is right for me to take the leap, I’m sure that offer will still be on the table. Sara: You already come with me to pretty much every show. You might as well get paid to do it. Don’t you think? Jason: All in the time. All in due-- ~~buzz buzz~~ ~~buzz buzz~~ ~~buzz buzz~~ ~~buzz buzz~~ ~~buzz buzz~~ Sara: What the-- She pulled out the constantly buzzing cell phone from her jacket pocket, and turned it to silent. He recognized the upsetting look on her face. Jason: It’s Kevin again… isn’t it? Sara: Of course. Jason: Let me guess. All caps. Bitching about… oh, wow… rodeo clowns or dandelions or some other random crap? Sara: Not totally random. He’s complaining about… oh good… my booking for next week… Jason: Your match against Khaos is somehow a… problem? Sara: He thinks I’m being fed to the wolves because Khaos is the World Champion. Or is he the Heavyweight Champion? Jason: I assumed the title names matched the brands. Anyway, wouldn’t a match against the champ be a great way to show the world that you’re gunning for the top spot? Khaos is at the peak of the pecking order… but he’s only there because he hasn’t fought someone quite like you before. Sara: Despite my brother’s concerns, I’m optimistic about this match. A good showing against Khaos will be huge for my standing on Sin. Jason: And I win over him will do even better! Sara: If that is what Fate has in store for me… End scene. Madison Square Garden // October Eighteen The day before Tuesday Night Sin returns to the same venue that presented Remembrance last month, we find Sara Pettis seated in a makeshift studio in front of a camera. Sara: Tomorrow night… it all comes full circle. Don’t you think? It was just a month ago that I made my breathtaking return to Revolution1. I fought tooth and nail to be the Most Valuable Player of that Battle Royal… before Fate chose Maggie Lockheart to be the ultimate victory. Even in defeat, I put myself in line to be a top prospect for the Sin brand, where I have had an… okay… start. I lost a match where I wasn’t even pinned… and then slew a giant to make up for it. Now, I have the opportunity to stand toe-to-toe with the prestigious World Champion… Damien Carter. This match is not one that I go into with presumptions that this is a walk in the park. If anything… it’s more like a tornado in a trailer park. I will have to dodge all kinds of attacks from a man who undoubtedly fears losing his top spot on Sin. He should worry. While there aren’t many serious threats to his reign on this brand, there are enough of us… and a loss against me tomorrow night will surely soften the opinions of our esteemed champion. He has overcome obstacles with ease… but he’s never been across the ring from a world-class athlete like me before. You all know me by now. Sara Pettis. Child of Fate. Sister Star. Born to do this one thing and do it better than anyone else. Then you also know that I am guided by Fate itself, and I obey its commands in both my personal and professional spaces. Through career-ending injury and countless surgeries. Through rehabilitation and regeneration. Through heartache and heartbreak. Fate has done its worst and I'm still standing. What can Khaos possibly do to take me off this path? Now… I know what you’re thinking. Defeating Khaos would make me the next in line for title contention. That is certainly one way forward… but I’m here for a long time and a good time. Whenever the time is right for me to dethrone one of the longest-reigning champions in Revolution1 history… I will graciously take the reins and guide Sin into a prosperous tomorrow. That’s something that Khaos just can’t do right now. He’s in no condition mentally, physically, or spiritually to carry the weight of the brand on his shoulders. He has done his part for months to keep the torch lit. If we all take a good look inside, we will agree that the next to continue the marathon is… me. I have prepared for my whole life for that top spot. Early on in my career, I found myself with a few World Titles… but I was too inexperienced to hold onto the top spot. Fast forward what feels like eternity… and I'm finally in a place where I can be a driving force in this business. Step one was returning to Revolution1. Step two was making the world notice me. Step three is making Khaos notice me. That's where we're at. Isn't it? This is the match that shows to the world… and to Khaos himself… that he is not infallible. He can be beaten. He can be broken. I will take it upon myself to do what needs to be done at Sin tomorrow night. Most people are intimidated by Khaos… but as you should have realized by now… I am not like most people. I have danced with the devil in the pale moonlight. I have grappled with that which goes bump in the night. I am the Child of Fate, one true heir to the forces that guide us on this mortal coil. I am the one who does the knocking and kicking down of the doors of those who fear the unknown. What are Khaos' thoughts on this match? So far, he has remained quiet. As the marquee talent on Sin, that seems… off… to me. He should be leading the charge and setting the bar for all of the Sin roster. Instead he's off doing… whatever it is he does with his free time. I'm not sure, to be honest, what he holds dear in life… other than that championship that I'm fated to take one day soon. But me… I'm an open book. I wear my heart on both sleeves. I live in the eye of the public and everyone sees the shadows that surround me. Unlike Khaos… I have no reason to hide. There is a target on my head that Jalen Prince attempted to take a shot at… but he didn't go far enough. If he wants another shot… I'm not hard to find. This kid has a long way to go before he even becomes a blip on my radar… but I am willing to teach him a thing or two about a thing or two anytime. I guess you could call an equal opportunist. Is that really a term? Am I coining something new? It matters not. What matters is what happens next. Tomorrow night… Tuesday Night Sin emanates from Madison Square Garden… where Sara Pattis and Damien Carter collide for the first time in a non-title match that could reshape the foundation of this brand. One direction sees things remaining steady… with Khaos holding a firm grasp of his position in the company. The other direction sees a hurricane ripping up the status quo… and placing me on a clear path toward the World Championship. I know which direction I'm hoping for… and it's the one that sees me moving forward with all of my hopes and dreams. Poor Khaos will soon return to The Underworld without his crown. Wait. The Underworld? Like… Hell? This guy is seriously deranged if he truly believes that. Deranged isn't a bad thing in this line of work… but it can shield your senses from danger. He should really be panicking right now… knowing he's going up against the eternal elements tomorrow night. If Father Fate is on my side, then all of my efforts thus far will be justified. I will finally be able to prove my worth. Khaos will know that all his base are belong to-- She was interrupted by someone waving off-camera. Sara: I'm sorry. Could we take a break? My boyfriend brought lunch. The producer nodded his head and the camera was turned off. Jason handed Sara a brown paper bag that she opened with glee. Her eyes lit up with joy. Sara: Jace! It's perfect! Jason: It just so happened that your favorite food truck was parked right outside. Sara: Because you called and had them bring it here. Didn't you? Jason: Guilty. Sara: I love you! I mean… it! I love… it… She sulked awkwardly with her food. Jason: I love you, too. Das ende. |
