"Alright, Jalen Prince." Our protagonist's voice is heard before she enters the frame. Entering stage left, Taylor-Made Ms. Arden Taylor slams the steel folding chair against the ground; opening the chair in the process. "I think it's time we talk, little buddy." She swiftly spins the chair and sits on it backward. "Oh, me?" She points to herself. "I suppose I look a touch different from my days in APW, so I'll forgive your memory just this one time. Hailing from the Center of the Damn Universe, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am your protagonist for the evening, Taylor-Made Ms. Arden Taylor." She cocks her head to the side. "Still don't remember me, Jalen? I just figured with all the research you did on fellow APW alumni, Chase Blackley, that my name would have come up once or twice. It's fine, though, my wittle fee-fee's aren't hurt."
"It's probably for the best that you don't remember me." A video projects over top of our protagonist; it shows a montage of simple collar and elbow tie-ups between her and her trainer, Bryce Albright. On every tie-up Bryce nearly effortlessly takes control of the wrist forcing a failing Arden to find a counter. "It would set you up for failure scouting my old matches. I wasn't bad by any means, of course. I'm just so much better in the ring now. It's like night and day."
On the last video of the montage, Arden rolls to her side and gets a knee under her. Before she has time to react, Bryce throws a knee just short for Arden's temple. She stares at him, her breathing heavily, with arms crossed in front of her in an 'x', bracing for a torso shot.
"Bryce taught me what it meant to work smart not hard. He taught me how to use my opponent's own momentum to take them over."
The projection shows Arden stand back to her feet and raise her arms, almost begging Bryce to try to take her down again. He snaps in with a collar and elbow tie-up, but this time Arden pushes away Bryce's right arm and grabs a wrist lock. Arden, knowing the lock could be easily broken, pulled Bryce in to a headlock. She switches her hips and takes Bryce over with a sidemare. She transitions it immediately into headlock, but Bryce quickly grabs a headscissors on Arden.
"I was expected to learn counters for counters. I was expected to find a way to escape every hold Bryce was able to lock me into."
Arden sits in a headscissors trying to pull Bryce's legs open enough for her to escape. She finally gives up and shifts her body toward his feet. She tries to position her right leg perpendicular to his left shin before she kneels down upon Bryce's ankles. Now with his legs trapped, Arden breaks free from the headscissors with relative ease.
"He taught me that it's never too early in a match for a submission victory, and to always be ready when the moment arises."
The video finishes up with Arden popping back to her feet. In that moment she realizes that she can advantage of the situation by figure-fouring Bryce's left leg. As soon as she grabs his heel he delivers a single tap to the thigh of Arden, cutting the projection short.
"Perhaps most importantly, though, he helped teach me that you can only get better; and that 'best' is a dirty lie." She stood up from her folding chair. "He says you can't win if you don't know what you're fighting for. Presuming that's true, do you know why you fight Jalen? I know why I fight."
With that the scene fades to black.
