“Sometimes life is like this tunnel. You can’t always see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you keep moving, you will come to a better place.” —Iroh
Rain droplets cascade onto the city of Seattle, like paint falling to a blank canvas. As the grey skies above stir, similar to a spoon stirring hot noodles in a bowl, passerbys hurriedly search high and low for shelter. As cars disrupt puddles, their tires spinning through them like pelicans diving through the ocean for food.
Within a national park, people and animals alike have evacuated the stretch, but one figure sits beside a tree. A hood over their head, and a pale hand placing down a photograph of a teenager. The teenager, of Asian descent, appears to be wearing a Kimono, with two shades of orange and a symbol of three gusts of wind on his right side of his chest.
The hooded figure, revealing herself as she removes her head, allows for her blonde locks of hair to be dampened by the mist of the rain. As her face is now visible, she places two individual sticks of incense. As she lights them ablaze, her eyes begin to water as she gazes at the photograph of the teenager.
“Haruto… I will find a way to right my wrongs, that I swear to you and to our father. Never again, will I let anger consume me the way it did in your presence.”
As Sara speaks, her words are choked up by her own cries being muffled. Suddenly, a loud ringing is heard. As Sara pulls out her cellphone, an iPhone XR, she looks at it and slowly begins to place her own hand over her mouth. As she shuts the screen off, putting the phone away after, she looks upon Haruto once more and wipes a tear from her eyes.
“I love you Haruto, but I have an opportunity to correct my mistakes in the ring. A real chance to prove once again, that I’m here to overcome the obstacles.”
As Sara picks her framed photo of Haruto up, she lets the incense burn as she leaves the tree, walking on the main path of the park now.
“So, Jason Ryan, you’re who I’ll be facing come this next Tuesday? Then I got some news for you, and I know it’ll be quite a shock to you and to the rest of the roster in the back. I want my International Championship back. Now I know, you didn’t take it from me, but you did defeat Anya, who did. You also insulted her, saying she was here to only fail, and now karma has come in the form of one Anime Fanatic who will not give up. Y’see, when you vocalise thoughts into existence, the Universe either will allow you to do them without their interruption, or they’ll send someone to stop you dead in their tracks. I’m that someone, put dead in your tracks.”
Sara stops to breathe for a moment as she continues to walk, her eyes focused on the camera, like it was her goal to greatness themselves.
“And I know, this is a non-title match but I’ll be certain that Kylie knows why it should’ve been for your belt. When they look back on what happened, they’ll see the me that Revolution1 has been sadly without.”
As Sara continues to walk along the trail, she spots a duck. As the duck approaches her, she smiles and gives it a cracker, admiring its beauty as it brushes the rain off of its feathers.
“They’ll see me, hungry and ready for anything. They’ll see me, determined to prove the world wrong. And they’ll see you, pinned to the mat.”
Sara stops for a moment and smirks, before continuing on.
“One thing is for certain, Jason, and when this Tuesday comes up and you are faced with me standing across the ring from you, it’ll become very clear to you what that is.”
“That you’re here to defy?”
Sara goes still. As the rain begins to calm, she turns to see her father, Yuki standing across from her. As he gazes at his daughter, he smiles widely, not showing teeth, but his wrinkles do scrunch together as he reaches out for a hug.
As Sara embraces him, the two share a moment in the rain as they whisper to one another. As Yuki begins to pull away, he wipes a tear from his eyes, then hers. The two release from one another and Yuki pushes her chin, obviously proud of the competitor that Sara has become.
“You don’t have to say anything, Pika, I heard enough. Still so determined, still so ready to take on the world by yourself, to prove to everyone you can do it. You have proven it time and time again, since joining Revolution1. I’m so happy to see you acting yourself again, because truthfully.. I was afraid you were lost.”
As Yuki finishes his monologue, Sara smiles and puts her hand on his shoulder. The two exchange smiles once more, before Sara opens her mouth to speak.
“Whenever I’m lost, you are the light that finds me so that I can come home. That’s what this is about, I may have been back to Revolution, but without you pa, I’m not home.”
“Well then let me be the first, to welcome you home.”
As Sara and Yuki both nod to one another, Yuki pulls an umbrella over their heads. As he holds the umbrella, he hands Sara a headband. Sara, looks at the band, and smiles widely. As she turns with her hood over her head she puts the band on and stands ready for what Yuki is going to say, still turned.
“Jason, this Tuesday you fight my daughter. But she is so much more than that. She is THE Anime Fanatic! She is the Original DEFYING factor of Tuesday Night Sin, and after this Tuesday.. She’ll be the one to help dethrone you, and take what rightfully belongs to her!”
As Yuki finishes his monologue, Sara turns and reveals the headband. Purple, orange, and blue are the colors with all four elements wrapping around it. On the front, it reads “Avatar Sara”. Sara jumps up and hugs Yuki, embracing him happily, as the two share this moment together.
“Thank you pa, now let's start training, While our words mean a lot, and will fire even the most hurt and affected, I need to be ready to give Mr. Champ my all, and I’ll be certain that when I’m done, I won’t be leaving that arena without pinning the International Champion.”
“Okay, Avatar Sara. Let’s go bring down your Ozai.”
The two share an exchange and walk away from the camera. Yuki’s arm around Sara’s shoulder as the camera fades. The only sound heard, the storm brewing still in the distance.
