I fuckin' did it. Snapped out of that self pity bullshit. Thanks to Rae. No. He'd say thanks to me. He'd tell me to stop passing the praise to other people. But whether he lets me tell him or not that man has got my ass together. Helped me see through the cloud. Gotta thank him properly.
I pull out my phone as I sit on the front step of my Brooklyn home. I shoot Rae a short text telling him to meet me at my place ASAP. Only a few moments go by before he responds saying he'll be on his way. I smile to myself before looking up to survey my neighborhood, my kingdom. Across the road on a small patch of grass Soobin holds the Revolution 1 World Championship high as some of the younger kids scramble around him to try and get it out of his grip.
Soobin: I'm the Brooklyngun! The World Champioooooon! I'll take you all out with a Shot of JINNNNN!!!!!
The teenager pretends to play tough up until the point a few of the younger kids decide to swarm him. As he falls to the ground his facade breaks as he begins playfully wrestling with the little ones. I can't help be crack a huge smile.
That. That's what all this is for. God these kids mean so much to me. All the struggle and pain.. damn just seeing them get to act like kids for once... it's just... it's better than any championship.
As all the kids begin to make their way back to their houses for dinner Soobin runs over to me title in hand. He looks at the championship with aew before handing it to me.
Soobin: Min-jun hyung you are the coolest. Everyone here thinks so. You're like our hero. I hope maybe I can help everyone like you do.
I smile softly as Soobin places the championship in my hands.
Min-jun: I'm glad you think so. You already do help everyone though. I know you and your sister have tried to fill my shoes while I've been gone. I know it's a lot on your shoulders. I'm hoping you won't have to stress about it much more. Going to call in a favour. Head home Soobin. Go enjoy your dinner.
Soobin bows to me in thanks before he makes his leave to go home. As the sun sets I see Yeong-Rae pull up on a motorcycle. He takes his helmet off and flashes me his signature charming smile. I can't help but flush with embarassment. I compose myself as he walks up and takes a seat next to me. He softly claps me on the back before giving me a side hug.
Yeong-rae: Look at you Mr. Champion. I knew you could do it. I told you. No need to be so hard on yourself. I'm so proud of you Minnie.
My eyes widen when I hear him say my old nickname. Minnie. So few people call me that. Jessie sometimes. Aphrodite... Sora... when he spoke. And Tae. It's so strange to hear it from someone else. Strange, but somehow right. When I look back at Rae he looks as if he thinks he has regrets over what he said. I smile and put my hand on his leg.
Min-jun: You're great you know that? I've known you for ... a few months and you're already becoming someone I really rely on. I appreciate that. Fully. It's actually why I asked you to meet me. I wanted to ask you something.
We turn to look each other in the eyes. He seems... eager with some sort of anticipation.
Min-jun: You've become someone I really trust... and at the risk of sounding dumb... care about.
He places his hand on mine.
Yeong-rae: I care about you too Minnie..
Min-jun: So I was wondering...
He leans forward.
Min-jun: Would you-
Yeong-rae: Yes I'll be your boyfriend!
Wait what?
I pause like a deer in the headlights. My brain stops working for a moment. Once I snap back to reality I realize Rae's hand has left mine and he's shuffled a bit away. He isn't looking me in the eyes.
Yeong-rae: I'm sorry. That isn't what you were going to ask was it. I just assumed. I'm really so-
I cut him off, pulling him into a kiss. When I pull away both of us are smiling like idiots.
Min-jun: You want to be my boyfriend?
Yeong-rae: Yeah.... I'm hoping that was a yes.
Min-jun: I think so.
Yeong-rae: So uhhh what was your actual question?
Min-jun: I.... yeah I have no fucking clue. I think my brain just fried.
Rae chuckles and leans against me, his head resting on my shoulder, and we watch the sun set on the Brooklyngun's kingdom.
-----------------------------------
TuesdayNightJin is back fam! The title is back around the Brooklyngun's waist and it feels right. LeeJin are back on top of this company as we have been almost non-stop since we linked up. But don't worry y'all. I'm not about to go all cocky and loud. I'm not about to let my ego go crazy like before. I know where that got me. It got me with my ass beat. It got me with my ego broken. Got me without the coin to run my little kingdom.
I ain't about ta do that anymore. I'm keeping this head on right. I'm keeping my eyes on the goal. Keep this title. Keep on winning. Get those winner's paychecks. Show up, kick off heads, get the bank, leave, repeat. I told y'all that I had too many people relying on me to let this all get to my head and I came through with that promise. I kept my head on straight. I made sure to outwit my opponents. See Mags and Pettis... they underestimated me. Broken Jin.. he's not a threat. Didn't even take me serious enough to even SAY anything about me. I made them both regret it. They made the same mistake I did at Christmas Chaos. They didn't take their opponent seriously. And I made sure to take advantage. I kicked Pettis' skull in the second the bell rang. I made sure Mags didn't even have a chance to save the count.
I proved straight up I will do whatever I have to. I'm done waiting for everyone to be ready for me, because honestly y'all have never been ready for me. Just like Chels. She ain't ready. I'm not some Jason Ryan. You can't take advantage of me tryin' to remember what gimmick I'm using this week. I've never been a gimmick. You can't count on me to get overconfident. I'm done that game. But what can you do?
I don't know probably plan to use your high flying and technical moves. Since that's what you talk about... literally... every... week. Like damn Chels. People make fun of me for having catch phrases I repeat like my life depends on it... but I at least have a FEW that I can switch up between. You've got what? "I have high flying and technical style" and.. "Skye is the limit" which like... might not even be yours? Damn girl. Get some new material.
You talk a lot about being a rookie, about all your opponents being more experienced than you in the ring. But you have this plucky underdog energy like you'll rise about every challenge. I mean.. you haven't. But the energy is there. This is going to be different for you though. You're the veteran here. Two years is more than what I've got. A few months and I've been a year in the biz. But Chels look at what I've accomplished in that year. Go back, watch the "Best of 2021" for Revo. I'm most of it. Glory, Remembrance, match of the year at Christmas Chaos. And then starting off the new year by becoming a two time world champ. I may not have the experience when it comes to arm drags and hammerlocks, but I have more experience than anyone when it comes to straight up fighting. Over a decade of fighting punk ass bitches tryna jump me and my fam.
So you for once have the wrestling advantage. I'm not Talia Skye with two decades spent in between these ropes. I'm a rookie. Even compared to you. But in my time as a rookie I've shown that pure wrestling ability isn't the be all end all. XYZ, Aph9, Sora Weaver, Jessie Lee, Sierra Silver... all more experienced than me... more experienced than you.. I've taken them all down.
I've said it time and time again. You can flip around me, you can suplex me, you can hit me with weapons... I need one moment. One Shot of Jin. It's enough to put almost anyone down for the night. And if it doesn't? I'll just keep serving up rounds until you black out.
At the end of the day Chels I'm not here to prove myself to you. I'm not here to show my wrestling prowess. I'm here to fight.. to win.. to make money. Coming in and having a five star technical showcase.. it's not going to pay for more groceries than simply caving your head in will. I'm not trying to sound shallow. I'm not trying to sound greedy. But when you have nothing and you FINALLY get something... you don't have time to sit and make friends. You focus on doing everything you can to keep that something. So when we face off I don't care about shaking your hand. I don't care about healthy competition. I'm going to kick you until you stop moving. I'm going to go to the back and collect my winnings. I'm going to pay for school supplies... light bills.. stretch that money as far as I can... and then I'm going to forget about you Chels. And I'll focus on the next step in keeping my SOMETHING. My championship, my money, my kingdom.
Skye might be the limit... but to quote a real famous move... with Jin...
The Limit Does Not Exist.
